There are things that we cannot completely control. How the climate feels, how long the mango tree will bear fruit, and how your dog urinated on the sofa for no reason. There are things that we don’t have the power to decide on. Your partner rejecting you, your company firing you, or the government imposing a lockdown even when you want to go outside. There are things that we must let go. Your last relationship, that best friend who moved on, that missed opportunity to go abroad, or your loved one who passed away days ago.
We all carry the burden that we should have complete control of our lives. But we don’t. Life’s difficult. And it’s precisely that recognition where we can decide to give up and let the river carry us, or take responsibility to change the direction we are flowing in. In other words, whatever happens to us, we still have the power to decide and act on it.
With great responsibility comes great power.
