I’m almost 5 months into blogging, but I haven’t thought of writing the “why” until now. Why do I write?
Writing can be a chore. I used to feel that way. That’s because at school, you’re pressured to deliver in X amount of time. But I know personally I’m the kind of person who takes a loooong time to process information. Unless I know for certain, if I answer right away, I’ll just churn out words like crumbled spaghetti. Messy, disorganized, and just plain raw. The same is true when I write.
Texts like this have been through multiple revisions, both small and large. It’s a normal part of the writing process. And along the way, I would run into gaps of information. Episodes where I couldn’t remember or forget the things said before and now. Especially about forgetting. That’s the aspect I found difficult about myself.
So I document, take pictures, and write. Because they allow me to fully live. To feel invigorated. And stop, think, and look at the world where it seemed everyone’s in a rush to accomplish something. For themselves and in fulfillment of others’ expectations. You don’t need to worry about catching up. However vast and expansive the universe is, it doesn’t expect anything out of you.
Instead, it teaches you to slow down. To appreciate things the way they are, whether it is a growing tree or a planetary system with a dying star. Writing also teaches you that. To ponder, to reflect, and play with words like it's a game of Scrabble. That’s why I write.
And when life takes me away? These writings serve as a testament to my mind and how I look at life.
