There’s this article from The Atlantic I came across randomly about the concept of being “good enough”. Where instead of pursuing excellence, near perfection, we settle for what’s already fulfilling us to live.
Social media has made it easier for everyone to compare themselves. It’s also exacerbated by the direct and indirect comparisons your family and friends make to you in the real world. The challenge, as you scroll through endless posts, is to resist feeling left out, jealous, or miserable because you are not living their life. Well, you don’t have to live their life. Because you are already living your own.
You are the artist of your own story. You set your own goals, aspirations, and boundaries with the world. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to hustle to achieve what you set out to do in early adulthood. You don’t have to rush booking your next vacation, next job, next relationship, next… whatever.
Some people are naturally gifted and are fortunate to receive a better job, a better partner, and a better living space. It doesn’t mean you won’t receive them. Life can present us with unexpected opportunities. What matters is whether we’ll settle for what’s already good enough for us in the moment.
Because there will come a time when it can be better. For as long as you consciously and consistently choose it.
